Why Your Local E-Waste Event Isn’t Eco Friendly.

Electronic recycling events are popping up in towns all over. Im sure you have seen the signs for an event near you, perhaps at a local hardware store or other large parking lot. It’s super convenient right? A place you can go drop off your old electronics junk that your local Goodwill or Salvation Army doesn’t want and it’s better than just throwing them away right? It gives you more space in your garage or storage closet and keeps your conscious clean as well because you aren’t contributing to polluting our ground water or wasting precious metals. Right? I mean, right? Because they are a RECYCLER so obviously they are recycling their stuff right? Because if they weren’t, that would be dishonest and disingenuous.

Well, many people are dishonest and disingenuous. Many of these local electronic recyclers only care about the precious metals that are in laptops and computers. They like your old cell phones and tablets but hate your old tv’s and anything covered in plastic. Why? Well, simply put, that’s the only things that make them money. Everything else actually costs them money to recycle. Plastic doesn’t generate much money for recycling so the cost to process it, transport it etc ends up costing more than it’s worth. Old tv’s with CRT’s have so many regulations involved with them that many of these places will either not take them or will actually just dump them at the local dump! A lot of the items that are dropped off at these local places just end up in landfills.

Where else can you take your stuff? Find a local E-waste recycler. There are many in California who will pick up your old electronics or allow you to drop it off. If you are located near Chino California, give us at TNG Group a call. We service most of LA, Orange County, San Diego and the Inland Empire. We offer local pick up, local drop off and a wide variety of services for businesses as well.
